This piece is part of Martin Margiela’s late 1990s artisanal “Haute Couture” collection. It was created through a meticulous handcrafted process in which vintage tailored jackets—selected by Martin and his design team—were hand-painted with silver paint in the atelier. I have seen other examples of this piece, but most use jackets from the 1970s to 1990s as their base material; this particular piece, which uses a 1930s wool melton sack jacket, is an extremely rare example.
