ELSA PERETTI FOR TIFFANY
Throughout history, every fashion house has designed belts as accessories, yet for any house, they remained nothing more than supporting players.
They held no greater or lesser value than their role as conventional belts, and no one sought more from them.
Upon becoming Tiffany's designer, Elsa Peretti imbued them with the universal strength inherent in high jewelry.
The buckle at the tip is quintessential Tiffany: sculptural silver jewelry itself. Peretti's organic design sensibility is fully realized here, with each buckle respecting its own unique theme.
These buckles are interchangeable with other Tiffany belts, allowing not only swapping but also using the buckle itself as a pendant top.
The exceptionally supple leather belt, crafted with advanced techniques by layering and stitching 1mm-thick leather, possesses a unique wear style: the tip is tied to the buckle.
These pieces constantly traverse the boundary between belts and high jewelry, creating designs in a realm unlike any other.
Until now, one could argue any belt would suffice.
There was likely no belt one prioritized above all others.
Yet, Peretti's creations from the 1970s-80s possess an unparalleled, irreplaceable quality: an intense heritage value and a unique, unmatched strength that demands “it has to be this belt.”
Why Tiffany & Co. has not reissued this masterpiece remains unclear to me, but this very fact only serves to further elevate the intrinsic value of the vintage original.
No better belt could ever be unearthed from the past.
It's doubtful anything surpassing this could be created anew.
It's a product that deserves the utmost respect.

ティファニーのデザイナーに就任したエルサ・ペレッティはそこにハイジュエリーが持つ普遍的な強度性を付与しました
先端のバックル部分はティファニーの十八番である彫刻的シルバージュエリーそのものであり、ペレッティデザインの有機性が遺憾無く発揮され、それぞれに固有のテーマが尊重されている事がわかります
これらのバックルは同社他ベルトと互換性があり、取り外しによる着せ替えは勿論のこと、バックル部分をペンダントトップとして利用することも可能です
高度な技術により1mm厚の革をレイヤーで縫製している非常にしなやかなレザーベルトは剣先をバックルに結びつけるようにして着用するという独自性を持っています
これらはベルトとハイジュエリーの境界を常に行き来しており、他にはない領域でのデザインが生み出されています
これまではベルトなんて極論どこの物でも良かったはずです
最優先に持っていたいベルトなんて無かったはずだ
この1970〜80年代に生み出されたペレッティの作品にだけは、このベルトじゃなきゃダメなんだ。という他にはない唯一無二の高強度性、強烈な遺産的価値があります
ティファニーが何故この最優秀作のひとつをもう復刻しないのかは自分にはわかりかねますが、それさえもがVINTAGEオリジナル作品の存在価値を一層に高める結果となっている事実は言うまでもありません
これ以上のベルトが過去から発掘される事は有り得ない
これを超える物が新たに生み出される事も疑わしいでしょう
大いなるリスペクトがあって然るべき製品と言えます
